Founded by Elizabeth Dole and Tom Hanks as the campaign chair, Hidden Heroes highlights the hard work of military caregivers and builds a community around them to help support their long-term needs.
Hidden Heroes has a large Facebook group, but the vetting of members requires submitting sensitive military documents. Potential members were emailing the information in order to be vetted which is hard to manage and not secure. Moving the Facebook group to a new forum was not an option because there were already thousands of members and Facebook is a perfect platform for how they ran the group and where the audience was.
Besides vetting Caregivers, Hidden Heroes had some extra goals:
The signup form captures all users and offers different options based on user type. For Caregivers, they are provided instructions for uploading their secure documents. Emails are also sent to the user with instructions and a link. The documents, when uploaded, get sent securely to a Dropbox account as a new folder. The client gets an email notifying of the upload.
Once the content outline was final, I built out a list for design, development, and wireframes. This document helps inform post types (Wordpress), images, reusable elements, and more.
Caregiver Stories and Resources required detailed filtering options for users. We used Algolia for its speed, and worked with the content team on filtering options and layout. The design team came in and refined the UI.
